    • On the record of her daughter Nellie May's 1925 marriage to her first husband, Ned Ervin Barkhouse, the maiden name of the bride's mother is clearly given as "Odessa Crowell," and she was one of the document's two witnesses, signing as "Mrs. John W. Acker." However, the handwritten birth record of her daughter Nellie May Acker suggests that she herself may have preferred the spelling "Crowe." In the original record, her name is given as "O'Neill, Odessa Estella", but "O'Neill" is struck out and replaced with "Crowe" in a bold, clear hand. At the bottom of the record, in the same hand (which is different from that of the rest of the record), under "Name and Address of Person making Return", is written "Odessa E. Acker, R.R. No. 1, Shelburne, N.S." Under this, in the same hand, it says "Corrected according to affadavit of mothert Nov 29/26. N.P.C." So seventeen years after her daughter Nellie Mae Acker's birth, Odessa went to the trouble of swearing out an affadavit to clarify her daughter's birth record.

      Also called Odessa Estella Crowe, Odessa Estalle Adeline Crowell, etc.

      (We know of no explanation for her surname being initially written as "O'Neill" on her daughter Nellie May's birth record. It may have simply been somebody's mistake.)

      The 1891 census of Ohio, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia shows an Odesia Crowe, age 7, living as a "lodger' in the household of David Bower (age 45) and his wife Matilda (age 42) in the 1891 census of Ohio, Shelburne co., Nova Scotia. Her religion is listed as “Free Church.” One of David and Matilda's sons is Glester Bower, age 8. Witnesses to the 1899 marriage of Odessa to John William Acker are Matilda Bower and Glester Bower.

      The 1901 census calls her ethnicity "O. B. Other Breed" and her religion "Presbyterian." She and John William Acker's 1899 marriage was performed by a Presbyerian minister. The 1921 census also calls her Presbyterian.

      She seems to have lived in the small towns of Ohio, or Upper Ohio, or Lower Ohio, Nova Scotia, for much or all of her life.

      Her death certificate calls her "English."
