Notes - Arrived in on the 3rd or 4th of November, 1631, on the second voyage of the Lyon; among his fellow passengers was John Winthrop, Jr., for whom he had served as a business agent. He had evidently been a well-regarded employee of the Winthrop family for some time before his emigration.
First at Boston, then in Portsmouth in 1638.
A follower of his mother-in-law Anne Marbury Hutchinson, John Sanford was banished from Massachusetts along with the other Antinomians, and went to Rhode Island where he was a signer of the Portsmouth Compact and later briefly served as President of the colony from 17 May 1653 until his death.
