      "The last record that has been found of Jacob and Elizabeth is dated 15 May 1823. It is a deed concerning the sale to John Hatfield 'in consideration of the sum of One Dollar Current Money' of the fifty-seven acres that had been 'granted by James Monroe late governor of Virginia' to them on 11 November 1800. Jacob and Elizabeth had 'personally appeared' before the Justice of the Peace to acknowledge the sale, so they were living at least until this date." [Charles Gander, citation details below]
