Notes - Count of Cleves. Count of Tomburg. Also enumerated as Dirk I, as he was the first count named explicitly after the castle of Kleve (Kleef, Cleve, Cleves) from which the family took its name.
Mentioned in 1092 as comes Thiedercus de Cleve. In 1094/95 he was mentioned as steward of the abbey of Brauweiler near Cologne, and in 1117 as steward of the convent of Zyfflich together with his son and later successor Arnold. As Arnold was referred to in 1120 as Graf von Kleve, Dirk must have already died by then.
