  His wife is said, without primary evidence, to have been Joan Damarel of Woodbury, Devon. He may have been a grandson, through an unknown intervening generation, of Sir Roger de St. Maur who died before 1276, himself a son of William de St. Maur, d. by 1271, earliest proven ancestor of the St. Maurs of Monmouth.
