  • Notes
    • Bishop of Lincoln, then Bishop of Winchester. Chancellor of Oxford University. Dean of Wells. Served three times as Lord Chancellor of England.

With his two brothers and one sister, all children of John of Gaunt by Katherine Swynford before their marriage, he was legitimated in 1396 by Pope Boniface IX, and by an act of Parliament 9 Feb 1397 which barred them all from the throne.

Joan Beaufort was certainly his illegitimate daughter. It is less certain that, as widely said, Joan's mother was Alice Arundel who later married John Cherleton.
