  Also called Ellen. Alan Fitz Roland, often called Alan of Galloway, married three times. His first wife was a daughter of Roger of Chester, who is often called Roger de Lacy. His second wife was Margaret of Scotland, daughter of David, Earl of Huntington. His third wife was a daughter of Hugh de Lacy, 1st Earl of Ulster. The presence of two marriages to daughters of men called de Lacy, both of which daughters' names have been lost, has created understandable confusion. Many online sources show Alan Fitz Roland's daughter Ellen as a daughter of his third marriage. In fact she was a daughter of his first; her maternal grandfather was Roger of Chester, also called Roger de Lacy -- not Hugh de Lacy. To the best of our knowledge, Alan Fitz Roland's third marriage was without issue.
