• Notes

  He arrived on the Confidence in 1638 with his parents, settling at Hingham; later, the family relocated to Hull. There seems to be little to no substance to the idea that his wife was Elizabeth Marsh, daughter of John and Susanna (Skelton) Marsh. As Richard H. Benson *citation details below) notes, it would be unusual at the time for a woman from Salem to marry a man from as far away as Hull.
