  According to an account book labelled "Thomas Speakman, His Book, 1711", found by a descendant, he sailed for America from Gravesend, Kent on 7 Aug 1712, stopping at Plymouth, Devon on 21 Aug before setting out across the ocean. He presented his certificate to the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting on 9 Nov 1712. Like his father, he was a sawyer.
