  Schuerman and Hickling (citation details below) have shown that it is chronologically impossible for John Tempest's wife Margaret to have been a daughter of Robert Holand and Maude la Zouche; their marriage was far too late for them to have been grandparents of the John Tempest who married Katherine Shirburne. And if she had been a daughter of the father of that Robert Holand, i.e., of Robert Holand and Elizabeth de Samlesbury, John Tempest and Katherine Shirburne would have been related in the prohibited second and third degree, and no record exists of a papal dispensation for their marriage. She may actually have been named Isabel. But her parentage is not established.
