  • Notes
    • Often spelled Beesbeach, Besbedge, Bisby, Besbey, etc. He was a cooper and a planter.

Robert Charles Anderson has established that he cannot have been a son of the immigrant Thomas Beesbeech.

Maine: A History ed. Louis Clinton Hatch (volume 4, New York: The American Historical Society, 1919) gives his death as 4 Mar 1716 at South Hingham, but this record clearly refers to his son Elisha, identified in the death record as "Ensign Elisha Bisbe". Decades earlier, Samiel Deane's 1831 Historuy of Scituate correctly stated that "Elisha, the son of Elisha Bisby, died in Hingham 1715."

"Elisha Bisby [...] kept the first ferry where Union Bridge now [1831] stands, in 1644. His house stood near the bridge on the west side of the river, and the south side of the way." [Samuel Deane, History of Scituate, Massachusetts, from Its First Settlement to 1831]

"His house was a tavern." [Lapham, citation details below.]
